What Makes Animal Behavior College Different
When it comes to animal career training programs, Animal Behavior College leads the pack. We’ve been helping animal lovers pursue their dream careers in dog training, cat training, pet grooming, and veterinary assisting for nearly 20 years. By combining online classes with local externship or shelter experience, students all across the United States and Canada can launch a new career without ever having to relocate.
ABC is owned and operated by avid animal experts and enthusiasts who are trained and eager to assist you in pursuing your dream career. Our friendly, helpful staff members are dedicated to animals and their well-being, and are excited to share this passion with you. Our faculty consists of animal industry professionals including working dog trainers, working cat trainers, registered veterinary technicians (RVTs) and working pet groomers. In fact, both our President, Steven Appelbaum, and Vice President, Debbie Kendrick, are professional dog trainers with decades of experience in the animal industry. We are also proud to share that Mr. Appelbaum is a former United States Air Force SP Canine Trainer.
We are serious about helping animals and are looking for students who are serious too.
More than 24,000 students have graduated from our school as of August 2017, and our students have donated more than 129,000 volunteer hours to animal shelters nationwide.
Benefits of Animal Behavior College
At Animal Behavior College, there are no hidden costs. Many other schools require you to purchase textbooks and learning materials after enrollment, but not Animal Behavior College.
The program cost is all-inclusive with everything you need to succeed, such as your study materials, educational videos and uniform. Every student receives an ABC polo shirt, smock or scrubs, depending on the program. In addition, graduates receive a 2-year Pet CPR and First Aid Certification as part of every program.
Personal Program Manager
Once enrolled, you will be assigned to a Personal Program Manager who will assist you throughout your ABC education. You will have someone to contact while you pursue each stage, and they will be able to address any questions you may have. Your assigned Program Manager will have professional working knowledge in your field of study.
Nationally Recognized Lifetime Certification
The goal of our programs is to best prepare you for an animal career wherever you live. When you become ABC certified, you open yourself up to numerous animal job opportunities across the U.S. and Canada.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of animal care and service workers is projected to grow 11% from 2014 to 2024, which is faster than the average for all occupations. This employment growth should result in very good job opportunities for jobseekers.
Your ABC certification is well recognized by thousands of employers in the pet industry. Your ABC certification is portable and has lifetime value. No need to take an annual exam or pay a fee.
New Career Within 12 Months
Students may complete the program and earn their certification in as little as 12 months or sooner. At ABC, the time required for studying is easily manageable, even along with other work and/or family obligations. Just think—you can become ABC Certified and be ready to start your new profession in as little as one year!
Convenient and Flexible
ABC programs are both convenient and flexible and are perfect for the busy individual. Many ABC students continue with their full-time jobs while earning their ABC certification. Since we offer our programs online, students may take a self-paced approach to their education and study in the comfort of their own home. In other words, you can study around your work and personal schedule.
Hands-On Experience in Your Area
A high quality animal care career program wouldn’t be complete without the invaluable externship or shelter experience. Our relationships with more than 6,000 animal shelters, veterinary clinics, grooming salons and professional dog trainers across the United States and Canada allow us to provide you with hands-on experience in your area.
Compare this flexibility to other educational programs that require their students to relocate to on-site facilities for a period of time in order to complete their animal care studies. This option isn’t feasible for most people, as it would obligate them to put their personal and professional lives on hold. The cost to complete this type of program can be expensive as well.
After gaining theoretical knowledge in your chosen program, students are authorized to participate in the hands-on portion of their education. Each student will complete a certain number of hours at an ABC-authorized facility where they can apply their knowledge in a real work environment. The best part about this experience is you’ll be able to work with animals and help improve their lives—all while you’re learning!
Animal Behavior College understands that your goal is to work with animals, and we are dedicated to helping you accomplish this goal. This is why we include an extensive career and business building module in every program. Whether you plan on working for an already established company, or building your own business from the ground up, this stage will provide you with the information you need to make that a reality.
ABC student support does not end at graduation. Our Alumni have access to an exclusive job board where they can search for an animal job within their field and area.
Dog Trainer & Pet Groomer Databases
ABC Certified Dog Trainers and ABC Certified Pet Groomers are able to list their services in our online directory, free of charge. This free advertising is extremely valuable because of ABC’s reputation and long-standing history in the animal industry. Google displays the online directories when pet owners search for a dog trainer or pet groomer in their area. We encourage all Alumni to take advantage of this free benefit, as it is a great way to gain clients and increase your online presence.
Dog Trainer Program
Our dog training philosophy focuses on positive motivation training techniques. The curriculum also emphasizes the importance of building a strong human-animal bond to create a rewarding experience for both the pet owner and the dog.
Our Dog Trainer Program students learn to deter unwanted behaviors from developing and solve existing behavioral challenges through the use of positive rewards and scientific training techniques. The end result is a humane and effective method for training dogs.
Cat Trainer Program
This program was developed due to the public’s increasing understanding that cats really can be trained.
In ABC’s Cat Trainer Program, students learn how to prevent and address problematic behavior using positive motivation training techniques. Subjects such as socialization, feline developmental periods, learning theory, behavioral modification and common training mistakes are amongst the many topics covered. Becoming a cat trainer will put you in a unique position to help the felines in your area.
Veterinary Assistant Program
The ABC Veterinary Assistant Program is proud to be one of only a few select online schools approved by the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA).
The curriculum for our Veterinary Assistant Program includes 11 stages of topical knowledge you will need to become a veterinary assistant. There are also 46 educational videos and 100 hours of externship experience in a veterinary hospital environment. These components provide each student a comprehensive educational experience.
Pet Groomer Program
The ABC Pet Groomer Program teaches students how to groom both dogs and cats while maintaining a safe and calm environment.
ABC grooming students are given a 40+ piece professional-grade grooming toolkit. This toolkit contains high quality grooming supplies, ranging from clippers to conditioner. These supplies will prove indispensable during the program as well as in your professional dog grooming career.
Animal Careers are Here to Stay
The animal care industry continues to trend upwards. Pet ownership currently stands at 68% of all U.S. households, according to the 2017-2018 National Pet Owners Survey presented by American Pet Products Association (APPA).
In addition, pet owners are investing more of their discretionary income in their pets’ health and well-being. APPA found that 10% of dog owners and 5% of cat owners have health insurance for their pets, which equates to nearly 9 million dogs and more than 4.5 million cats with insurance in 2016.
Given this level of commitment, working in the pet industry proves to be a beneficial career move.
Whether you are looking for a new career or just starting out, Animal Behavior College can help you get started in the animal industry.
