  • When and how did you know you’d be a success in the pet industry?

In November of last year, my appointment book started to fill up very quickly. Once it got closer to Christmas, my schedule was booked and continued to be busy up until March of this year. Seeing how successful I can be on my own after all my learning really made me realize I was made to work with animals and make them feel beautiful.

  • What knowledge and experiences have you gained from becoming an ABC certified pet groomer?

All my reading and hands-on training gave me all the basic knowledge one would need in order to start pet grooming and get a business started. With my determination and skills from Animal Behavior College, I have my own successful business. I love every minute of it.

  • What is one thing you have learned not to say to a pet owner?

Although it is always important to educate all my clients on proper pet maintenance, I never scold pet owners when their dogs become matted. Sometimes life happens and dogs hate being brushed. I am always very kind about discussing options. After I explain their options, my clients are confident in choosing what type of groom they want and how to prevent mats in the future. I’ve had many pet owners say they were made to feel terrible by other groomers and they appreciate my understanding.

  • What grooming technique do you hope to master on during the next 12 months?

I would love to learn more about dog massage and how it creates a calming environment. In my facility, I make every trip to the groomers a pleasant one for every dog and cat I get the chance to work with. The calmer the pet ,the easier it is for me to do my job. It is also very rewarding to know that pets are happy to get out of the car to come into my salon.

  • What are your plans for the future?

I’m will continue to build my current business. I love all my regular clients and working with Pet Valu is amazing. I wouldn’t change a thing. Plus, I think I would miss my regulars too much.
