Paws of Wisdom
I conducted both group and private lessons with puppies and younger dogs on basic obedience in a larger pet based store setting.
Then I worked privately with a few dogs and owners who were experiencing problems such as aggression, lack of control by the owner with older dogs, puppy mill dogs, owner adopted dogs they did not understand and other behavior problems.
I was drafted to work with a non-profit organization training shelter dogs with incarcerated youths, which was to continue later in 2009. I was waiting to take on a facility close to where I was living when due to unforeseen changes that did not happen.
I moved onto another situation where my husband bred Giant Schnauzer and Miniature Schnauzers which at times can be more difficult to train. After working with these two groups I developed a greater appreciation of the working dog and keeping the dog’s brain more active.
We also have a search and rescue dog that was kept ready in training. All this broadened my skills in training to include tracking for the search and rescue dog. These skills need to stay active to keep the dog alert and on point when needed to search.
I reached back into some training I had for Agility I took one of my personal dogs to prior to my ABC training. We set up a large agility track to train the dogs for all types of situations including walking on shaky ladders, sliding down boards, climbing up a ladder, following another dog into a tube or by command, and other types of real life obstacles they may encounter searching for people, dogs, or other things as required.
AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC), Community (CGCA), and Urban (CGCU) classes and testing are all offered. Also offered for the puppies is the AKC S.T.A.R. program. These programs and designations give the dogs/puppies a good base of social skills.
I may be able to help you individually with your problem that can not be solved by basic obedience classes held in a store or group setting.
We worked on dogs out of the Puppies for Parole (COMTREA) program and added the therapy skills needed for each patient the state has in the system. This may be sitting in the courtroom or library quietly, helping an autism child, alerting on seizures or diabetic changes, or other skills needed.
This is in a prison and very similar to what I did with the youths earlier. It also is personally rewarding as well as training unique skills with the dogs.
I personalize my training to each dog and human setting so they get the best training offered. Most of the time I can get this done in private lessons so the dog-human learning is the maximum in the shortest time for the dog to learn. It is all about helping your dog and you! Let me help you solve your problems.
