I graduated Animal Behavior College in May 2017. I also took a working with shelter dogs course and a pet CPR class.
I have had dogs all my life and now, My husband and I have (5) dogs of our own and foster many dogs and train them in hopes of finding them their forever homes. I feel that training goes both ways, not only do you teach the dog but, the dog teaches you as well.
If you give the dog you’re meeting for an evaluation time to get to know you and he learns that he/she can trust you, training will go much easier. Positive reinforcement is a very good way to train and consistency is a must.
I have much luck with the dogs at the shelter that I have trained. Positive reinforcement, praise and continuing to show that I am the alpha always seems to make for a successful training experience.
