My name is Peter Alvarado. I currently work as the primary canine trainer for a major local law enforcement agency. I have been with this department’s canine unit since 2007, and have been a law enforcement officer since 1998.
In 2006, I enrolled in the Animal Behavior College which is an online course in pet dog training. I am considered an ABC Certified Pet Dog Trainer.
In 2007, I became part of the canine unit where I worked a dual-purpose German Shepherd in criminal apprehension and narcotics detection.
In 2009, I attended the US Customs and Border Patrol narcotics detection instructor school in El Paso Texas, where I became certified as a narcotics detection instructor.
I returned to San Diego and instituted a structured narcotics detection training academy for my department. I became the narcotics detection instructor full time. I have trained numerous other agency’s dogs including El Cajon PD, Harbor PD, County Probation, etc.
I am a certified California Peace Officer Standards and Training canine team evaluator.
I have attended the nationally recognized Handler Instruction Training Seminar (HITS) in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017.
I strive to continue my education in relation to the canine training industry to become a better trainer and instructor.
Training dogs and handlers is my passion. I love seeing the progress made on both ends. I am a straight shooter and will be completely open and honest with you. I don’t believe in sugar coating things. I welcome any and all input because I don’t know everything. I learn new tips, tricks, and techniques all the time from students, peers, and others. If there is something I don’t know, I will tell you that I don’t know.
But together we can come up with a solution to the problem. In that, I am confident.
Training your pet dog should be fun for all involved.
I hope I can help you enjoy it just as much as I do.
