Santa Clarita, Calif, October 16, 2017 - The hurricanes and floods that devastated parts of Texas, Louisiana, Florida and the entire island of Puerto Rico left many residents homeless and without basic resources. As they struggle to rebuild their lives, many reflect on what is important and what gives their lives meaning. For some, the realization is clear: Don’t put off dreams of today because one doesn’t know what tomorrow will bring. Animal Behavior College would like to support those who’ve always dreamed of a career working with animals and are now committed to pursuing that career path. In an effort to help, Animal Behavior College ABC today announced it is offering special enrollment pricing for residents of these states and the U.S. commonwealth.

“My heart goes out to people in these ravaged areas,” said Steven Appelbaum, president and CEO of Animal Behavior College. “Having experienced hurricanes first-hand, I know how devastating they are and how important it is to get your life back on track.”

“For some people, there is an urgent need to get their careers back on schedule or start a new one. It is here that ABC is happy to help. We’re offering special enrollment prices to lessen the financial burden for those who are interested in pursuing a career in the fast-growing animal services industry.”

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts employment of animal care and service workers in the U.S. will grow 23 percent from 2010 to 2020, faster than the average for all occupations. With 60.2 million U.S. households owning dogs (which equates to 89.7 million dogs owned), and 47.1 million owning cats (which equates to 94.2 million cats owned) according to the American Pet Product Association (APPA) National Pet Owners Survey, the jobs forecast appears promising for dog trainers, cat trainers, pet groomers and veterinary assistants. In fact, the APPA estimates that pet owners will spend an estimated $6.1 billion on services for their pets including grooming and training and an estimated $16.62 billion on veterinary care.

ABC offers four distance-learning, online courses enrollees can take in the convenience of their homes:

Dog Obedience Program. The dog trainer program teaches positive-reinforcement training techniques and covers an array of relevant topics, including learning theories, basic dog obedience cues, effective problem-solving, group class training and business building. Students also obtain hands-on experience working with a professional mentor and are required to volunteer for at least 10 hours at a humane society, rescue or shelter in their communities through the school’s Student Saving Lives program. Graduates are certified Animal Behavior College Dog Trainers (ABCDTs).

Cat Training Program. The unique cat trainer program teaches cat lovers, professional dog trainers, pet groomers, veterinarians and veterinary office employees everything they need to know about cats and how to train them. The program teaches learning theories, training tools, preventing unwanted behaviors, safety techniques and practices, behavior management, feline care and nutrition and business building. The program also includes a shelter practicum. Graduates are certified Animal Behavior College Cat Trainers (ABCCTs).

Grooming Instruction Program. The pet grooming program covers basic grooming techniques and methods, as well as health and safety, dog and cat grooming basics, clipper use, scissor control techniques, body styles and breed specific cuts. Students also learn ergonomics and ways in which to perform tasks without causing any strain or damage to their joints and muscles. The program includes a hands-on Externship where students work with a mentor in a grooming establishment to gain practical experience. Graduates are certified Animal Behavior College Pet Groomers (ABCPGs).

Veterinary Assistant Program. This National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) approved program teaches the many diverse techniques and methods used in handling and working with animals in a veterinary clinic or hospital. The curriculum includes office, hospital and examination room procedures, surgical preparation and assistance procedures as well as radiology and ultrasound imaging to name a few. Students also learn the fundamentals of career building, resume writing, financial planning and effective interviewing skills. The Veterinary Assistant Program includes a hands-on portion where students participate in an Externship under the guidance of a mentor at a veterinary clinic or hospital to gain invaluable practical experience. Graduates are certified Animal Behavior College Veterinary Assistants (ABCVAs).

In addition, all program students learn and are certified in pet first aid and CPR.

ABC also offers specialized certificates of completion for five Short-Term Programs: Pet Massage, Pet Nutrition and Diet, Pet Sitting and Dog Walking, Training Shelter Dogs, and The Art of Selling and Teaching Private Lessons
