Animal Behavior College FAQ

Is Animal Behavior College legit?

Yes.  The school is registered in California and has been in business for several decades.   Animal Behavior College first began offering dog training in 1998 and boasts a long, successful track record of training students for work in a variety of animal careers.  Founder Steve Appelbaum was previously the owner and president of Animal Behavior and Training Associates, Inc., the largest independent dog training company in the United States at the time.  From the beginning, ABC was a groundbreaker in continuing vocational education, expanding to include cat training, dog grooming, vet assistant, zookeeper assistant, and aquarist programs.  The combination of online learning and real-world externships allows students to enter the job market confident in their own knowledge and experience.  The school has over 30,000 alumni, including the largest group of pet dog trainers in North America.

Where are Animal Behavior College locations?

If you are strictly inquiring about brick and mortar locations, you can find Animal Behavior College’s premier version of their dog obedience training program, in person, teaching dog training in Santa Clarita, CA.  Otherwise, Animal Behavior College is everywhere in the United States and Canada.  With internet capacity, you can enroll anytime, anywhere, and complete your coursework online.  Then, you will be paired with a local professional for an externship, giving you valuable real-world experience in your chosen career. The school has mentor locations in all 50 states and every Canadian province. Your location should not be an obstacle to enrolling in Animal Behavior College.

Is Animal Behavior College AVMA accredited?

The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) doesn’t accredit veterinary assistant programs which is the veterinary program that ABC offers.  So, accreditation through the AVMA isn’t relevant for ABC based on the types of programs we offer.  What is relevant is the National Association of Veterinary Technicians of America (NAVTA) as it is this organization that reviews and recognizes the best veterinary assistant programs in the nation.  ABC is proud to share that we are only one of four online schools in the entire country whose veterinary assistant program is recognized and approved by NAVTA.
