Winning Dog Act Shows What’s Possible!

If you’re a fan of variety acts like we are, then you LOVED last week’s winner on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.” The Olate Dogs are a troup of Furry Friends who do completely amazing stunts in a seemingly effortless way. By way of background, click here for the act’s website, Click here for background information on the act from the Hollywood Reporter, and click here for more background in the LA Times. Then, watch the video… but be sure you brace yourself in advance for one of the most amazing examples of canine artistry (with some help from their loving trainers) you’ll ever see!

With an act like this, it’s only appropriate that part of their prize package includes a headliner stretch in a showroom in Las Vegas — home to the best variety acts in the world. What’s the best trick your dog can do? Please post it in the comments section below!

Dog Trainer & Veterinary Assistant ABC Double Graduate Showcased in Local Paper

Animal Behavior College Graduate, Shelly Tarr, Shares Her Story in the Local Newspaper

We love to hear when our graduates are featured in the news.  Shelly Tarr, a resident of Knightstown Indiana, is a double program graduate and she received certification in Animal Behavior College’s Dog Obedience program and the Veterinary Assistant program.  Shelly’s husband is an active military member and through the Military Spouse Career Advancement Program (MyCAA), she qualified for free tuition.  Shelly’s husband did not have to relocate during her studies.   If the family had moved,  since ABC offers home learning combined with a hands-on externship program, Shelly could have received her instruction anywhere in the United States, and she would have been able to continue her courses seamlessly.

Even Students with the Busiest of Schedules Can Achieve An ABC Certification

ABC Graduate, Shelly Tarr, is the stable manager for these horses

Like many ABC students, Shelly was challenged with time constraints throughout her course. She held down a job and raised her children, and it was the program’s flexibility that made it manageable.

Shelly is now working with animals as the stable manager for the Indiana Ceremonial Unit Caisson Platoon (pictured on the right). At the stables, she grooms, trains, walks, and cares for the platoon’s horses.   She receives inquiries about dog behavioral challenges, and she is always happy to advise and council people about solutions to help curb unwanted behavior.   She feels that she is actively taking a role in helping to prevent animals from being abandoned to the local animal shelters and she is very proud of that!

Congratulations Shelly Tarr!

Astonishing Video: Extreme Agility Training!

Some videos must be watched more than once!

With over 1.5 million views on YouTube, TreT (the American Straffordshire Terrier shown) is trained in parkour and has become a worldwide canine celebrity. This video compels you to watch over and over in wonder.

By way of background, the American Straffordshire Terrier is sometimes referred to as the “cousin” of the American Pit Bull. These dogs can be great pets when properly socialized. Eager to please and especially responsive to those who understand their innate need for a strong pack leader, the  Straffordshire requires time, exercise and discipline for best results. Possessing those traits, however, may allow dedicated Staffy owners to glean some of the remarkable results seen in this video!

If you have an active lifestyle and understand the needs of these dogs, they make loyal and loving  family pets.

Steve Appelbaum, the president of Animal Behavior College, was recently interviewed by ABC graduate Nan Talleno on her podcast, “Teacher’s Pet” on Pet Life Radio. The topic of the interview centered around the trainability of cats. Feline behavior issues often result from owners simply not understanding what their cats are trying to tell them. Effective training not only helps lower the incidents of cats being abandoned to shelters in the first place, it also greatly reduces the statistics of them being returned due to “failed” adoptions. Steve discusses why cats are the way they are and how humans can work within the feline psychological structure  to accomplish amazing things.

To promote the cause of cats everywhere, we at ABC have created a “Cat Management & Training” Continuing Education Program.  The goal of this course is to provide students the background,  context and tools necessary to motivate and ultimately train cats (yes, they are trainable!), as well as to provide a forum where cats can be introduced to more appropriate and positive behaviors.

We’re proud that our vet assisting and grooming students are all about cats. Our dog training grads looking to expand their professional repertoires are all about cats. And ABC’s staff and management are all about cats! Know that Animal Behavior College can keep you current on cat care, health and “management” for the duration of your professional education. Our school supports all beings of the feline persuasion!
