Animal Behavior College
Makes The Front Page For A Local Arizona Newspaper

At ABC, we are focused on animal safety and care. Our school is owned, operated, and staffed by animal lovers who have a STRONG passion for all animals.  With summer upon us an important issue for pet owners to be aware of is that there are over 5,000 pets that drown in pools every year, often because they are not trained to find the pool steps.  ABC does what it can to get the word out and give the pet owning community safety tips around pools.  We are always happy to read that others join our cause on pool awareness.

Recently, the Arizona newspaper, Ahwatukee Foothills News featured an article by Diana Martinez about Lisa Maldonado, who is an ABC dog training graduate and mentor trainer.  Lisa teaches Canine Pool Safety and Exercise Training to help save animals lives in Arizona.  In the same issue, reporter Travis Roemhild, wrote a front page cover story article about our certified dog training program at Animal Behavior College.

LIve Puppy Cam!

This is possibly the most adorable — and purposeful — litter of puppies on the Internet! These six beautiful Golden Retriever pups are getting the training and grooming necessary to help recently returned members of the military transition back into home life. Good work. Serious work. And work deserving of attention and gratitude. Explore their webpage at http://explore.org/#!/live-cams/player/service-puppy-cam and please share their story!

If Only People Could Do What Cats CAN Do!

Natural Feline Athletes

The greatest human athletes from all over the world are now competing in London. They are so exciting to watch! Can you imagine if they had the ability to do what some of these amazing cats can do?

Having the ability to professionally work with cats can put you into an extremely exclusive niche in your community of local trainers. We have a continuing eduction program that focuses exclusively on cats. Click here for more information about our “Cat Training and Management” program!

I am just not sure if the swimming or diving events would be very popular. :)

Shooting ABC’s New TV Commercial

From a cool, green park perfect for pet romping to the warm, friendly surroundings of a professional veterinary clinic, Animal Behavior College’s new television commercial will cover relevant and appropriate ground.

Director of Photography Rob Archer and cast prepare to shoot a scene.

Yesterday, our company spent most of a Sunday shooting scenes for new TV commercials. Staff members, students, alumni and company friends all came out to help, have fun and show off their Furry Friends. We’ll be releasing behind-the-scenes photos and videos over the coming weeks to give an idea of what to look for. We’ll also give dates for when to keep an eye out for this project on your favorite TV shows. Continue reading

ABC Founder & CEO On San Diego TV

Our school started as the germ of an idea in the head of one man: Steve Appelbaum. Steve took his love of dogs, his ability to train them and a whole lot of gumption and turned them into Animal Behavior College, the largest animal career vocational school of its kind in North America.

The creation of  ABC was full of twists and unexpected turns. You can read that story here. Fully realizing the love and concern that all pet owners have for their Furry Friends, Steve established his business on a specific set of training principles that he devised with business partner Debbie Kendrick. Read those training principles here. Below, see Steve give a lecture to ABC students about the in’s and out’s of creating their own pet businesses.

On Wednesday, July 25, Steve will be on live television in San Diego: KUSI/TV 51′s “Good Morning San Diego.” Steve is guesting in two segments: first, he’ll talk about tuition options for military spouses; next, he’ll discuss summer safety tips for your dog.

Steve’s got more appearances coming up. We’ll keep you posted as they get close. Tell your friends and family — your school is growing and we’re getting the word out! (Video soon to follow!)

Pooling Resources: Canine Water Safety

Not All Dogs Know How To Swim

Romping in pools, lakes and the ocean is a perfectly natural thing for some dog breeds. Be aware, though, that there are breeds that don’t — or CAN’T — swim. As cute as the video below might be, dog water safety is not to be taken lightly. If you’re unsure about your dog’s natural swimming ability, click here to read our tips on introducing your dog to water properly and to find out which dogs may be safest kept OUT of the water.
